Named for the historic capital city of Scotland. Long a center of learning, it became the focus of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century. It is the home of the world's largest arts festival, comprising the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe. Edinburgh became the first UNESCO City of Literature in 2004.
