Santoka Taneda (1882-1940), the “Wandering Haiku Poet”, was born in Yamaguchi and died in Ehime prefecture. Well known for his free style Haiku, which doesn't follow the 5-7-5 syllable rule, Santoka composed as many as 84 000 Haiku and contributed extensively to the Haiku journal So-un.
