Named in honor of Frances McAllister, humanitarian and leading philanthropist of Flagstaff, Arizona. Founder of The Arboretum at Flagstaff, a center of horticulture and plant research, McAllister sponsored a program that allowed high-school students to observe P/Halley in 1985–86 and has helped considerably to improve Lowell Observatory’s library and scientific facilities.
