Named in honor of Daniel J. McCleese, whose research is primarily in atmospheric physics and infrared instrumentation for remote sensing of planetary atmospheres. As manager of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Earth and Space Science Division, he includes in his purview all science aspects of the Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking program.
