Guillaume de Machault (c. 1300-1377) was a medieval poet and one of the last poet-musicians. He belonged to the ars nova musical movement and perfected the secular song forms, rondeau and balade. His masterpiece, Le voir dit, includes deliberate inconsistencies that force a reader to question the truthfulness of the story.
