Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet (1805–1859) was the successor of Gauss and the predecessor of Riemann {see, respectively, planets  (1001) and  (4167)} at Göttingen. He made important contributions in both pure and applied mathematics and gave the first rigorous proof of the convergence of Fourier {see planet  (10101)} series. (M 36951) _ _.
