Named for an industrial city, home of the second discoverer, located some 60 km north of Tokyo, between the Ara and the Tone {see planet  (1266)} rivers. The city contains one of the three most celebrated ancient burial grounds in Japan, and an old sword with golden Kanji characters was found there. Gyoda is sister city of Kuwana {see planet  (5629)}.
